Artur Bual

Born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1926, Artur Bual died in 1999. Artur Bual is one of the visual artists who have marked the history of the Cerveira International Art Biennales. He participated in several editions of the Biennale, having been awarded the Atelier Livre Prize in the second edition (1980). The local community and event enthusiasts remember the artist painting generously sized works live, in the energetic way that characterized him.
He had a decisive influence on art in Portugal in the second half of the 20th century. Although a sculptor and ceramist, it is as a gestural painter that his artistic work is more recognized. He held several exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. He is represented in several collections: Modern Art Center of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, City Councils, Pegões Professional Training Center, and Regional Government of the Azores, among others.
