Carlos Nogueira

Carlos Nogueira was born in Mozambique in 1947. He studied Sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Porto and Painting at the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon. He developed a multidisciplinary work, including drawing, painting, performance and sculpture, and has also collaborated as co-author in architectural projects. Interested in natural phenomena and materials, as well as in themes and forms rooted in archaic memories and rituals of culture, his work explores the relationships between construction and memory, between architectural space and natural space. Using wood, stone, iron or glass as his preferred materials, he explores themes such as the house or the path, often summoning the habitable space and blurring the traditional relationships between interior and exterior. He has also created works of public art where he clearly explores the assumptions of his sculpture, namely the notions of place.
