Clara Menéres

Born in Braga, Portugal in 1943, Clara Menéres died in 2018. She studied Sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Porto, where she was a student of Salvador Barata Feyo, Lagoa Henriques and Júlio Resende.
She received a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation to study in Paris (1978-1981); she completed her PhD at the University of Paris VII (1983) and was a researcher at the Center for Advanced Visual Studies of MIT (1989-1991).
She began her teaching activity at the School of Fine Arts of Porto, was a professor at the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon (1971-1996) and an associate professor and full professor at the University of Évora (1996-2007).
Her first individual exhibition was in 1967 and she participated in numerous group exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. She was present in several editions of the Cerveira International Art Biennale, having won the Grand Prize Sculpture (ex aequo) in its 5th edition (1984).
