João Mendes Ribeiro

João Mendes Ribeiro graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, where he taught from 1989 to 1991. His work has been object of numerous publications and national and international exhibitions. He was recognized with several national and international prizes and nominations, among which the following stand out: Architécti Prizes (1997, 2000); nomination for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies Van Der Rohe Award (2001, 2005); finalist in the Premis FAD d’Arquitectura i Interiorisme (1999, 2001, 2002, 2004); awarded by the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic as Commander of the Order of Infante D. Henrique (2006). He has been teaching on the subject of Project at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra since 1991. He has carried out scenographic works for the creations of choreographer Olga Roriz, including “Propriedade Privada” (1996), which was awarded the Architécti Prize (1997) and Highly Commended in the AR Emerging Architecture Awards (2000).
