Pedro Calapez

Born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1953. Pedro Calapez is a Portuguese visual artist who currently lives and works in Lisbon. He was studying Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico [Technical University of Lisbon], while working as a professional photographer, when in 1972 he decided to attend initiation courses in arts at the SNBA [National Society of Fine Arts]. Following this training, which he concluded in 1975, he attended the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon. He worked was a professor at Ar.Co, Lisbon, from 1986 to 1998, and was responsible for the Drawing and Painting departments.
He began to exhibit in the 1970s, having held his first solo exhibition in 1982. His work has been shown in several galleries and museums both in Portugal and abroad.
He was awarded the Painting Acquisition Prize at the V Cerveira International Art Biennale (1986).
