On the centenary of the birth of Júlio Resende, Lugar do Desenho celebrates a peculiar facet of the artist, through an exhibition that presents drawings of circumstance, of a humoristic nature, dating from 1979 to 2000.

Júlio Resende (1917 - 2011), born in Porto, is the author of an extensive body of work in painting that was developed between the 1930s and the first decade of the 21st century. He completed his training in Painting in 1945 at the School of Fine Arts of Porto, of which he was also a teacher from 1958 to 1987. He held numerous exhibitions in Portugal and abroad, having started participating in group exhibitions in 1934, and initiating a solo career in 1943.

He executed public works for different places all over Portugal using techniques ranging from ceramics to frescoes, stained glass and tapestry. He worked as illustrator of literary works, particularly for children, and created sets and costumes for high impact theater and ballet shows, and other performances. His work has been studied by the main Portuguese art critics and historians, as well as important writers and poets.
